Are there NHL regional blackouts in Sportsnet+?
Yes, NHL regional blackouts affect NHL programming on Sportsnet+.
What are NHL Regional Blackouts?
Regional Restrictions (aka Blackouts) are a mandate of the NHL. All 32 teams in the league have their own designated broadcast region, where only viewers who live in that region are able to watch these games on their local sports channel/streamer. In order to watch these regionally broadcast games when you live “out of market” (ie, when you live outside of that region), you’ll need to subscribe to a package such as Sportsnet+ Premium or NHL Centre Ice (through a TV Service Provider). These packages will give you access to over 1,000 NHL games throughout the regular season.
Regional Restrictions are applied based on your location at the time of the game through your IP address or TV subscription address. If you move between cities or provinces, your territory will change, as will your game availability. All broadcasts subject to change.
- Sportsnet+ Premium/NHL Centre Ice will not give viewers access to regionally broadcast games that are aired by another broadcaster in their local market. Viewers will need to subscribe to that broadcaster to view those games.
- Note: Beginning in the 2024-2025, Amazon’s Prime Video will be the exclusive streamer of Prime Monday Night Hockey. These games will not be available to watch on Sportsnet, Sportsnet +, Sportsnet+ Premium or NHL Centre Ice. Viewers will require a Prime Video subscription to watch these games.
- There are no blackouts in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as every game is nationally broadcast. Stream EVERY game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Sportsnet+.
Sportsnet+ has two different packages for subscribers to choose how much hockey they would like to watch!
Sportsnet+ Standard: Subscribers are subjected to regional blackout restrictions. As a result, if a user wants to watch regional Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, or Buffalo Sabres they must reside within their broadcast region to avoid blackouts.
Sportsnet+ Premium: Subscribers receive out-of-market hockey as part of their subscription. This means that they are able to stream over 1,000 NHL games during the regular season. Regional blackout restrictions apply.
