Yes, regional blackouts are a mandate of the NHL and are determined based on a viewer’s physical location at the time of streaming. Blackouts are not based on billing address or whether a team is playing at home or on the road.
Sportsnet is the regional rights holder for the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs. To watch regional games for those teams, without blackouts, a viewer must reside within the local broadcast territory of the team. As a result, the only Canadiens, Jets, Senators, or Sabres games that are available on the Sportsnet Prime Video Channel are those broadcast during Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday national games.
